This Nutrition Mistake Kills Muscle Gains
Yet a lot of people do it
Ever feel like you're putting in serious work at the gym but your gains are NOWHERE to be found?
You're not alone.
Here's the hard truth: The food you're eating is killing your progress—even if you think you're doing everything right.
Most people trying to build muscle make one critical mistake: they focus solely on protein but completely overlook their overall macronutrient balance.
Let me explain why this is sabotaging your results...
When you're training hard but not seeing growth, your body needs more than just protein—it needs a properly balanced diet with the right proportions of all nutrients. This balance fuels your workouts and supports recovery and growth.
According to traditional nutritional guidelines, your diet should generally consist of:
Carbohydrates: 45-65% of daily calories
Fat: 20-35% of daily calories
Protein: 1.4-2 grams per kg of bodyweight (though for muscle building, aim more for the higher end)
For someone looking to build muscle, getting adequate protein is crucial, but don't underestimate the importance of healthy fats and quality carbohydrates. Fats are essential for hormone production, while carbs fuel your intense workouts and support recovery.
Focus on quality sources across all macronutrients:
Proteins: Lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes
Carbs: Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes
Fats: Avocados, olive oil, nuts, seeds, fatty fish
One client of mine, Alex, switched from a "high protein, low everything else" approach to this balanced strategy. Within 6 weeks, his strength plateaus disappeared and he added visible muscle for the first time in months.
The best part? He was eating more satisfying meals and had more energy than ever before.
But nutrition is just one piece of the puzzle...

P.S. Finding the right macronutrient balance is just the beginning. There are at least 5 other nutrition principles that most people get wrong. I cover them all inside the community, plus how to implement them based on YOUR specific body type and goals.
